Sunday marks the beginning of Virginia Wine Month. While vintners and harvesters are still out amongst the vines— harvesting sometimes through the night, events are happening across the state to celebrate their efforts and the industry’s placement as one of the top wine producers in the country.
October is also peek leaf season! Looking to get outside and enjoy the fall foliage? Our friends over at Virginia Tourism Corp. have created a list of some of the best fall foliage spots across the state to catch those burnished golds, oranges and reds 🍂.

EDIBLE EXCURSIONS: Apple Orchard Falls & Halcyon Days Cider
Fall always makes me itch to spend more time outside. A favorite hike is Apple Orchard Falls, located right outside of Lexington. This is a moderate hike with several route options. You can opt for a little over 5 miles roundtrip or connect to the Appalachian Trail to make for an 8 mile loop. The trail follows a series of streams for a good portion of the hike
After your hike, why not enjoy a little apple cider? Halcyon Days Cider Co. is just a short drive a way. Their stunning tasting room is housed in a former 1800s log cabin and lies adjacent to their Apple Labyrinth. The labyrinth orchard is home to some 2,000 apple trees of over 50 varieties. Sip on some cider while you stroll and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
WHAT WE’RE COOKING: Braised Kale with Sausage

POEM OF THE WEEK
Fall, leaves, fall BY EMILY BRONTË Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away; Lengthen night and shorten day; Every leaf speaks bliss to me Fluttering from the autumn tree. I shall smile when wreaths of snow Blossom where the rose should grow; I shall sing when night’s decay Ushers in a drearier day.
