It’s hard to believe just two weeks ago we were awaiting Helene. Though much attention and aid have gone toward Western NC which sustained untold devastation, here in Virginia, many folks are also hurting. Virginia Cooperative Extension has released a preliminary estimate of agricultural damage in Southwest Virginia and it is staggering — over $125M. The New River flooded cornfields, pastures, homes. Animals are missing, fencing and barns have been swept away, and hay bales are so waterlogged they’re rotting. Grayson County alone has sustained an estimated $56M in agricultural damage.
Our neighbors are hurting and we want to help. We know we’re stronger when we come together, so we’re sharing relief efforts: ways to donate and ways to apply for aid if you’re a farmer or small business affected by Helene. Our thanks go out to our various partners for sharing this information and helping those in need.

POEM OF THE WEEK
When Giving is All We Have Alberto Ríos One river gives Its journey to the next. We give because someone gave to us. We give because nobody gave to us. We give because giving has changed us. We give because giving could have changed us. We have been better for it, We have been wounded by it— Giving has many faces: It is loud and quiet, Big, though small, diamond in wood-nails. Its story is old, the plot worn and the pages too, But we read this book, anyway, over and again: Giving is, first and every time, hand to hand, Mine to yours, yours to mine. You gave me blue and I gave you yellow. Together we are simple green. You gave me What you did not have, and I gave you What I had to give—together, we made Something greater from the difference.
