Our spring issue arrived from the printer on Wednesday. The past few days have been a whirlwind as we loaded our cars and drove across the region, passing out copies along the way.
While distribution is a hectic 72 hours, I love it. Not only because I get to stop in to so many of my favorite spots and say hello to producers, advertisers and readers alike, but because it allows me the opportunity to see our region at the cusp of a new season. Yesterday I simply had to pull off the road to admire the cherry blossoms in Crozet and this morning I noticed redbuds beginning to scatter themselves along Tinker Mountain as I drove home on 81 South.
Much like the mountains, our spring issue is bursting with color and growth. From a farm in Harrisonburg working to combat climate change, to learning about Great Valley Farm Brewery & Winery in Lexington, to the growing trend of wine cocktails and spritzers, there’s something for everyone. Of course you’ll find a few seasonal recipes and be sure to check out our farmer’s market guide to see when weekly markets will return to your area.
We could not share these stories without the loyal support of our advertisers. Please support them in turn by frequenting their establishments and purchasing their wares.

PARTY TIME
That’s right, we’re throwing a party! Please join us Thursday, March 9th from 5pm-8pm at Golden Cactus Brewing to celebrate the release of our spring issue. Happy hour runs 5pm-6pm. Food Hut RKE will be preparing one of our spring recipes alongside their regular menu, local food celebrity John Park will be on site fixing some tasty bites, and Gatewood Rose is hosting a seed starting station. We’ll have local Roanoke food producers selling their wares and the venerable Edible Landscaping will be joining us with a selection of their trees and shrubs!
And, of course, there will be magazines. We hope to see you there!
