Yesterday morning I collected four eggs of from our small chicken coop. Each egg was a different color, which means all our girls are back to laying. Wednesday evening, my husband and I walked from our home to downtown Roanoke and as we strolled, I noticed the Monarch crocus I planted last fall peaking its bright blooms from among the mulch. Downtown, we were greeted by a wave of daffodils, their joyful star-faces reflecting my own feelings about the warming weather.
We’ve passed the winteriest time of winter. The gloom that February often instills is fading and everything seems to be bursting with the promise of growth. Farmers are busy seeding in greenhouses, restaurants are preparing for spring menus. In Harrisonburg, Broad Porch Coffee has just opened the doors of its new location at 47 Court Square. The new space is beautiful with ample seating, a delicious menu and a wide porch to soak in warm days. Pay them a visit this weekend and congratulate them on their opening. And, don’t worry, you can still find them pulling shots at their Agora Market location.

POEM OF THE WEEK
The Blue Ridge by Harriet Monroe STILL and calm, In purple robes of kings, The low-lying mountains sleep at the edge of the world. The forests cover them like mantles; Day and night Rise and fall over them like the wash of waves. Asleep, they reign. Silent, they say all. Hush me, O slumbering mountains — Send me dreams.
